About Us
Our Mission
At Canine Blood Heroes Boise, we are devoted to saving the lives of dogs in our community through blood donation.
Our mission is to build a network of healthy canine donors to support local veterinary clinics and address the critical need for dog blood transfusions, providing hope and second chances for dogs in need.

Our Services
Blood Collection
Donating At Your Local Vet's
Heroic donors can give blood every 6-8 weeks, and the entire process takes just 30 minutes.
Using state of the art equipment, we collect 450 mL of blood, which is immediately prepared for its life-saving mission.
Once the donation is complete, our heroes are celebrated with fresh water, tasty treats, and endless hugs and praise.
One Donation, Four Lives Saved
After collection, the blood is processed into four separate components. It can be kept as Whole Blood (for dogs who need it all) or spun down to separate Red Blood Cells (for sick or injured dogs) and Plasma (for dogs with clotting issues).
Because we maximize every drop, that means a single donation can save up to four lives!
Screening and Testing
Assessing Overall Health
Before your dog becomes a donor, we conduct thorough health screenings and tests to ensure that participating dogs are fit and healthy. This confirms that the blood collected is safe and beneficial for recipients.
Donor dogs should be:
- Healthy and happy
- Greater than 50 lbs
- Between 1-7 yrs old
- Able to lay still for 10 minutes
The most common breeds to donate include Airedale Terriers, Boxers, Dobermans, Golden Retrievers, Greyhounds, Irish Wolfhounds, Labradors, Pitbulls, and varied mixes in between.
To begin the process to see if your dog can be a hero, a small blood sample is taken to determine blood type. If your dog has the universal blood type, the blood will then be screened for diseases, all at no expense to you.
Education and Awareness
Spreading the Word
We provide educational resources to dog owners about the importance of blood donation and how it can save lives. Our outreach programs aim to increase awareness and encourage more pet owners to participate in this life-saving effort.
Emergency Support
Meeting Urgent Blood Needs
In cases where emergency transfusions are necessary, we work closely with local veterinary clinics to ensure timely access to canine blood supplies, providing critical support when it matters most.
